Vanessa has danced for over 29 years. She has studied various forms of dance including; Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Hip-hop, Modern, Contemporary, Musical theatre and Afro-Jazz. Vanessa started her first dance class at the age 4 and she hooked ever since. Growing up Vanessa took classes in dance, gymnastics, figure skating and competitive cheerleading. Vanessa has taught dance in the East Bay for over 13 years, teaching a wide variety of dance classes. Vanessa earned a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and English from the University of Washington. Vanessa received the University of Washington Dance Department Choreographic Scholarship. Vanessa was a part of several dance companies in Seattle and Northern California that performed in such places as Times Square NYC and Kodak Theatre Hollywood. Vanessa has studied with the Paul Taylor Dance School, Alvin Ailey, Mark Morris, Pacific Northwest Ballet and the Radio City Rockettes. Vanessa has also worked along side and trained with a revolutionary figure in children’s dance, Anne Green Gilbert. Anne is one of the biggest names in children's educational dance and has written several books and has taught all over the world. Vanessa had the opportunity to be her assistant teacher. Vanessa believes as an educator that is important to never stop learning. She attends a yearly week long dance teacher conference every year to get inspired with new creative teaching concepts and to further her education to pass along to her students.In the classroom, Vanessa mixes fun and creativity to motivate her students to create well rounded dancers and simultaneously build self esteem.
